On non-periodic homogenization of time-dependent equations
The recently introduced needle problem approach for the homogenization of non-periodic problems was originally designed for the homogenization of elliptic problems. After a short review of the needle problem approach we demonstrate in this note how the stationary results can be transferred to time-dependent problems. The standard parabolic problem of the corresponding heat equation in a heterog...
متن کاملHomogenization of Parabolic Equations with Large Time-dependent Random Potential
This paper concerns the homogenization problem of a parabolic equation with large, timedependent, random potentials in high dimensions d ≥ 3. Depending on the competition between temporal and spatial mixing of the randomness, the homogenization procedure turns to be different. We characterize the difference by proving the corresponding weak convergence of Brownian motion in random scenery. When...
متن کاملOn multiscale computational mechanics with time-space homogenization
The paper deals with multiple scales in both space and time. First, the state-ofthe-art is presented. Then, we discuss a family of computational approaches using time-space homogenization. Emphasis is put on the time aspects.
متن کاملHomogenization of Harmonic Maps and Superconducting Composites
We consider the Neumann boundary value problem for harmonic maps in an annular domain with a large number of small holes. On the boundary of the domain the degree condition is prescribed. We obtain an effective (homogenized) anisotropic nonlinear problem. We also discuss applications of these results to homogenized description of superconducting composites and superfluidity.
متن کاملAnalysis of a Multigrid Algorithm for Time Harmonic Maxwell Equations
This paper considers a multigrid algorithm suitable for efficient solution of indefinite linear systems arising from finite element discretization of time harmonic Maxwell equations. In particular, a “backslash” multigrid cycle is proven to converge at rates independent of refinement level if certain indefinite block smoothers are used. The method of analysis involves comparing the multigrid er...
